New Year, New Books

Updates from editor K.R. Wieland

Hello all!

Happy New Year to all the Crows and Friends of Crows! Whether this is your first time reading our newsletter or you’ve been around awhile, we are glad you’re here. We hope this year encourages you to try something new or to keep working on your goals.

Our first publication of the year is Bleak Midwinter II: Solstice Light. This is the second installment of this anthology and with it brings a little more hope within the stories found inside. That being said, they are all still in the realm of winter horror that we love. Bleak Midwinter will be released on January 17 and you can preorder it now through The Crow Shoppe.

Some of you have been waiting to hear about our Rituals & Grimoires anthology. To that, I have some good news! We will be sending out acceptances at the end of January. So, for those who previously submitted a story, make sure to look for an email from us later this month.

Our first novel of 2023 is Her Dark Enchantments by Rosalyn Briar. The villain of Sleeping Beauty goes by many names, but where did she come from? If you’re looking for a fairytale villain origin story, then look no further! In this stunning novel, you’ll follow Myravelle and Byzarian who are on unsteady ground with one another, yet must find a way to trust before all hope is lost. This story is everything I hoped for and so much more, I can’t wait for you all to read it as well. Her Dark Enchantments will be out April 25, 2023, but you can preorder now.

Our next highly anticipated novel is The Quiet Stillness of Empty Houses by L.V. Russell. In this story, you will follow Theodora Corvus, who can hear the whispers of her crumbling family home. She can hear the whispers of Kingsward Manor, her place of employment. She sees the watchers by the lake, black-eyed and waiting. But Broken Oak is silent. Broken Oak is empty. Theodora longs to unlock the secrets inside Broken Oaks walls, but the truth may be more than she is prepared for. This gorgeous tale will be published on May 15, 2023, and is available for preorder in our shoppe.

Do you have a dark tale that’s ready to be published? Does it fit within the veil of Gothic Fiction? We are once again accepting novel submissions! For more information, and to ensure that your novel will fit with Quill & Crow, head to our novel submission page.

If you haven’t yet, be sure to read the latest issue of The Crow’s Quill and check the submissions page to see upcoming themes for future issues. You can now not only submit stories, but poetry as well. And while you’re on our website, head over to The Crow Shoppe where you can buy books or dress like a Crow!

Much love from my Little Black Heart,

K.R. Wieland
