End of the Year Wrap-Up

Updates from editor by K.R. Wieland

Hello all!

What an amazing year it has been! From the anthologies, to another Crow Calls Volume, to the final book in The Ancient Ones Trilogy, along with twelve more issues of The Crow’s Quill and The Dark Poet Society Blog—we have been given so much dark, macabre reading! And we have some exciting things planned for this next year, too.

The first of our recent publications is the Bleak Midwinter double feature. The first volume, The Darkest Night, is out now. This installment is filled with dark, sorrowful tales that encompass the eerie stillness that can only be found in the dead of winter. Volume Two: Solstice Light, takes a bit different approach with lighter horror elements. While it still encompasses all things dreadful and dreary, this second installment will leave you with a bit of hope. Together, these two anthologies will give you all the winter horror you desire. I highly recommend ordering both to devour. Solstice Light is now available for preorder in The Crow Shoppe, and will be out January 17, 2023.

This next year will not only bring more anthologies, but we have a wonderful line-up of novels as well. The first is Her Dark Enchantments by Rosalyn Briar. The villain of Sleeping Beauty goes by many names, but where did she come from? If you’re looking for a fairytale villain origin story, then look no further! In this stunning novel, you’ll follow Myravelle and Byzarian, who are on unsteady ground with one another but must find a way to trust before all hope is lost. Personally, I have been looking forward to this story for a long time and the more I learn and read, the more excited I am for you all to read it too. Her Dark Enchantments will be out April 25, 2023, but you can preorder now.

Our next highly anticipated novel is The Quiet Stillness of Empty Houses by L.V. Russell. In this story, you will follow Theodora Corvus, who can hear the whispers of her crumbling family home. She can hear the whispers of Kingsward Manor, her place of employment. She sees the watchers by the lake, black-eyed and waiting. But Broken Oak is silent. Broken Oak is empty. Theodora longs to unlock the secrets inside Broken Oaks walls, but the truth may be more than she is prepared for. This gorgeous tale will be published on May 15, 2023 and is available for preorder on our website. There are three more novels coming next year as well, so be sure to join our newsletter so you can stay posted.

Thanks to all your support with our Kickstarter Campaign, this year will bring twelve fresh issues of The Crow’s Quill to sink your teeth into. January brings the first issue with the theme Snowed In, following along the lines of Bleak Midwinter: Solstice Light. The stories and poems within have a similar theme of lighter horror with a sense of hope. You will also find snippets from the anthology spread throughout the magazine for your enjoyment, and to give you a taste of what’s to come.

Our shop has recently been updated! You can still find it on our website under The Crow Shoppe tab, or head over to thecrowshoppe.com. Once there, you can purchase or preorder any of our publications. The Crow Shoppe also features beautifully Gothic clothing collections and designs, so you can support small presses in style. Stay on the lookout for more candles, accessories, and more.

As the year draws to a close, we want to say thank you to you, our readers and authors, for your continued support. We appreciate you all! Whether you are celebrating any holidays or not, we wish you all a safe, blessed New Year and we look forward to what’s to come!

Much love from my Little Black Heart,

K.R. Wieland
