Carnivals, Hauntings & New Crows

Updates from Associate Editor, K.R. Wieland

Hello all!

You may have noticed something exciting that we have been promoting at Quill and Crow. Our new Haunted anthology! The Crows have all been hard at work writing short stories and poetry that will all be put together into a Crow Showcase coming April 5th. You can preorder it now, just head to our website for details on how.

The Dark Poet Society Blog is up for March, full of fantastic poems filled with Betrayal. Also telling tales of Betrayal is March’s issue of The Crow’s Quill. You can check both of these out and read for free! But beware...well, you know the saying.

For all you wonderful writers out there, I wanted to give you some reminders on upcoming submission deadlines. March 10th is when short stories are due for April’s issue of The Crow’s Quill, featuring stories about Rebirth. March 13th, we hit the deadline for our next anthology, Carnival Macabre, and we need your Gothic horror stories about anything and everything to do with carnivals, fairs, and the like. Our May magazine issue will follow that theme as well, and these submissions are due April 10th. Lastly, May 10th is the deadline for the Melancholia themed issue, and we will have information on upcoming issues soon. As always, before submitting any stories, including novels, be sure to check the submissions page and please follow our guidelines.

If you follow us on Twitter or Instagram, make sure you check out March’s #CrowCalls prompts and please join in if you feel so inclined. I always love seeing what everyone comes up with and how they interpret that day’s word. But remember, this is an empowering, friendly activity, so please be kind. And don’t forget to tag us!

We also have just released some new Quill & Crow merchandise! Our new Decompose & Grow collection is inspired by the notion of letting the old parts of us die to grow into something new-isn’t that a beautiful concept? We hope it speaks to you as it does to us. I, for one, may need to buy a few more shirts.

Last, but definitely not least, we have some amazing new Crows to welcome! Catherine Fearns has signed with us for the publication of her dark historical fiction, All the Parts of the Soul, coming Fall of 2023. We are so excited to share her story with all of you! We also are welcoming Eli Hayden Loft to our editing team, and we are happy to have her join us and help to get your stories ready for publication.

Much love from my Little Black Heart,

K.R. Wieland
