Betraying Time

I do not pray to gods
I pray to the moon
Because she makes no promises
Beneath her light
But she is always there
Peace persisting
In never ending dark
I pray to the stars
Because the battles that compose them
Also collapse them
And that’s the only balance I’ve ever known
In my own
I do not pray to gods
I pray to the night
Urge scientific rules to bend
To justify my trust
In terrifying concepts
Like love
Like unnatural bonds
Eternal states of being and un-being
Boundlessly betraying time
Like the galaxies in your eyes
Like remnants of the minds
We’ll leave behind
When flesh falls away
Pound for pound of worth
Buried in earth
Fire to ashes, soul to dust
I pray to the sun
Because he runs
After only her
Day after day
Forsaking eons
I do not pray to gods
I pray to the sun
